Transition Considerations from an Educational Interpreter’s Perspective

Course Description:

The presenter will provide an overview of her capstone project, highlighting key insights and showcasing several resources she developed to support Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children during the transition from early intervention to school-based services. The session will include a focused presentation on one of these tools: Training Your DHH Child to Use an Interpreter. Participants will engage in experiential activities that have been successfully used with students to build self-advocacy and interpreter-use skills.

Learner Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the difficulties that can arise when DHH children transition from EI services to school

  2. State new tips to encourage a better transition experience

  3. Explain specific activities to help a young DHH child learn to use an interpreter

Continuing Education:

This event is offered for 0.20 ASHA CEUs. Only participants who attend the live event will receive a certificate of attendance. Participants who attend the entire webinar and fill out the self assessment form will be considered eligible to earn ASHA CEUs.
