What is a student ambassador?

A Language First student ambassador is a current undergraduate junior or senior, or first-year graduate student in a Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) program in the United States. The ambassador program is a one-year commitment, beginning in March each year. Five student ambassadors will be accepted for each cohort, to ensure a close mentorship relationship with Language First team members and other students in the program.


What are the benefits?

As a student ambassador, you will receive:

  • Mentorship from Language First team members, including guidance in post-graduation career planning

  • Opportunities to improve your ASL skills 

  • Opportunities to meet other students around the country and join our community 

  • Opportunities to represent Language First at other conferences (i.e., ASHA Convention) 

  • Language First swag (i.e., t-shirt, mug, magnets)

  • Personalized ambassador spotlight on our website and social media 

  • Opportunities to participate in research 

  • Opportunities to volunteer at the annual Language First conference and attend sessions for free 

  • Experience to add to your resume  

  • Free Language First membership (standard tier)

  • Certificate and letter of completion, if all requirements are met


What are the requirements?

As a student ambassador, you are asked to:

  • Commit to designing and completing a Language First service project 

  • Present about Language First to your CSD department and/or university NSSLHA chapter

  • Attend all monthly student ambassador meetings 

  • Reshare Language First posts on your personal social media account, as able


how do i know if it’s right for me?

You would make a great student ambassador if:

  • Your philosophy aligns with the Language First mission and core values

  • You have a passion for working with Deaf children and ensuring that they acquire a complete first language from birth

  • You enjoy learning, networking, and engaging in service work
