MODEL

Our Early Language Center (ELC) utilizes a co-teaching model in language intervention groups for Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) infants, toddlers, and young children. Each group is led by a collaborative team consisting of an ASL-fluent speech-language pathologist (SLP) and a Deaf native-signing interventionist. Together, they jointly plan and deliver themed, play-based sessions in ASL that integrate their complementary expertise and skills. This innovative model leverages the Deaf professional’s lived experience and native language proficiency alongside the SLP’s specialization in language development and intervention, resulting in uniquely tailored and highly effective service delivery.

TEAM

We are a team of Deaf native-signing interventionists and ASL-fluent speech-language pathologists with specialized expertise in early childhood education, language acquisition, and early intervention. Together, we bring a collaborative, linguistically accessible approach to supporting young DHH children. Meet our team members here.

WHY US?

Fluent Models | We center Deaf native-signing professionals as fluent language models for your child. This consistent exposure to natural, rich language supports early language acquisition and provides authentic representation.

Language Foundation | We offer American Sign Language (ASL) as a first language (L1) foundation, creating an accessible pathway for cognitive, linguistic, and social development. Because sessions are conducted entirely in ASL, children witness the language being used authentically between adults, an essential element of early language acquisition.

Multi-Sensory Instruction | Our instructors use multi-sensory teaching strategies, meaning that all senses are engaged (sight, touch, movement, and more) through the use of visuals, real objects, hands-on activities, and interactive experiences. This approach supports more salient language learning, especially for young children.

Play-Based Learning | Our sessions are play-based and developmentally appropriate, allowing children to explore, discover, and learn through meaningful, engaging activities. Through play, children build communication skills, social connections, and confidence.

Group Sessions | Our group sessions provide children with the essential social context for language acquisition. Interacting with peers in a language-rich environment fosters communication, turn-taking, and social-emotional growth through shared play and experiences.

Evidence-Based Practice | We follow the most current, research-backed practices in early language development, ensuring that our approach is grounded in evidence and proven to support positive outcomes for Deaf and hard of hearing children.

Parent Coaching | We recognize that you are your child’s most important communication partner. Each session includes guided strategies and practical tools for you to use at home, empowering you to support your child’s language development throughout daily routines and interactions.
